SIP Connectivity & Voice Termination for AI Voice Agents

SIP connectivity and voice termination for AI voice agents: BYOC carrier connectivity, international routes, concurrency planning and compatible human handoff.

How an AI voice agent connects to the phone network

Outbound: AI platform → SIP → carrier → PSTN → destination phone. Inbound: PSTN → DID number → carrier → SIP → AI platform. See AI Voice SIP Trunk & BYOC: how it actually works for the full explanation, including why codec choice and route quality matter more for AI voice than for ordinary calling.

Authentication: IP vs. SIP registration

An IP-authenticated trunk allows calls based on your platform's public IP being on an allow-list — no registration step. A registration-authenticated trunk uses a username and password, and must successfully REGISTER before calls work. Which one to use depends on what your AI platform's SIP/BYOC configuration supports.

BYOC / BYOT and platform-specific setup

Connecting a custom SIP trunk to Vapi, Retell AI, ElevenLabs or LiveKit follows the same underlying pattern regardless of platform — see SIP trunking for Vapi, Retell AI and ElevenLabs voice agents for the information checklist.

Concurrency, CPS and failover

An AI voice deployment placing or receiving many simultaneous calls needs concurrency and CPS capacity stated explicitly, and — for production reliability — the option of a second, backup carrier for failover if the primary has an outage.

Human handoff: SIP REFER, attended vs. blind transfer

When an AI agent hands a call to a human, the transfer can be blind (no context passed) or attended/warm (context passed first), implemented via SIP REFER or a conference bridge. See AI Voice warm transfer: SIP REFER vs conference transfer for how each actually works and what it means for your CDRs.

Codecs and audio quality for speech recognition

G.711 is the usual baseline between an AI platform and a carrier because it avoids compression artefacts that can affect speech recognition; Opus or other codecs are often transcoded to G.711 at the PSTN edge. Confirm what your platform offers and state any codec requirement in the route-test request — see VoIP codecs compared.

Inbound vs. outbound scope

CallCenterBoost publishes rates for outbound termination. Inbound numbers (DIDs) for AI agents depend on destination availability and are handled as a separate request, not a published product.

Recording, consent and disclosure

Many jurisdictions require callers to be told that a call is recorded, and some require disclosure that they are speaking with an automated system. Automated calls are frequently subject to stricter consent rules than live calls. These obligations sit with the operator of the AI platform and campaign.

Platform examples

Vapi, Retell AI, ElevenLabs and LiveKit are examples of platforms that document custom SIP / BYOC trunk settings. The connection pattern is generic SIP interoperability; CallCenterBoost is not a certified partner of these platforms and has not published a tested integration tutorial for each one.

Search live route data

Start with published destination and prefix-level pricing, billing increments and effective dates, then request a route test with your traffic profile.

Last published update: 2026-09-20. Published destinations: 317. Published prefixes: 38373.

Provisioning workflow

  1. Choose destination or prefix.
  2. Review rate and billing.
  3. Submit expected volume, CPS/concurrency and lawful traffic description.
  4. Approved customers can receive SIP credentials or IP-auth provisioning through the client portal.

Frequently asked questions

Does CallCenterBoost integrate directly with Vapi, Retell AI, ElevenLabs or LiveKit?

CallCenterBoost is not an official partner or built-in integration of any specific AI voice platform. It provides standard SIP/BYOC carrier connectivity that platforms supporting a custom SIP trunk can connect to — see the BYOC guide for the general pattern, and check your specific platform’s own documentation for its exact SIP trunk configuration fields.

IP authentication or SIP registration — which should I use?

Whichever your AI voice platform’s SIP/BYOC configuration supports. Both are available; the right choice depends on your platform, not a CallCenterBoost preference.

Can I test latency and call quality before going to production?

Yes — request a route test with your expected destinations, concurrency and CPS before committing production traffic.

How does handoff from the AI agent to a human work?

Via SIP REFER or a conference bridge, as either a blind (no context passed) or attended/warm (context passed first) transfer — see the warm transfer guide for how each actually behaves and what it means for your CDRs.
