Preparing VICIdial for SIP Connectivity
What to have ready before connecting a VICIdial installation to a SIP trunk.
Decide your authentication method
Choose SIP credentials or IP authentication (see the two dedicated articles on this) before requesting a route test — this is one of the required fields on that form.
Carrier setup in VICIdial
In VICIdial, a SIP trunk is configured as a "Carrier" under Admin, with the registration string, host and authentication details. Configure this directly in your own VICIdial installation.
Codec and CLI considerations
Confirm the codec your trunk expects (commonly G.711) and how outbound caller ID (CLI) should be presented — some destinations have specific caller-ID and registration requirements that affect answer rates.
Testing before scaling
Request a route test for a small number of target destinations before pointing a full campaign at a new trunk. This confirms call setup, audio quality and billing behavior match expectations before committing to volume.
